Kathryn O'Neil, Psy.D.
Clinical Psychologist
Kate has a decade of experience with educational, psychological, and neuropsychological assessment. She takes a collaborative and humanistic approach to assessment in order to empower clients to know themselves better and seek out supports at school, work, and home for ongoing growth.
Psychological assessment can be useful for those who are unsure about their diagnosis, are seeking services or accommodations, or who continue to struggle despite therapy and other services. By using specialized performance-based (non-invasive) measurement tools backed by research to gather information, we can create a well-rounded understanding of how someone functions psychologically and cognitively and how we can use their strengths to build on growing edges. In addition to understanding skills, assessment can clarify diagnoses like Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), Intellectual Disabilities (ID), depression and anxiety disorders, trauma-based disorders, learning disabilities, and executive dysfunctions.
For those interested in obtaining a comprehensive psychological assessment, they should fill out a referral form to join our waitlist. They will then be contacted to schedule a clinical interview, 2-3 testing sessions, and a feedback session in which they will receive a full report summarizing our findings with diagnosis and recommendations for care. Testing will typically include norm-referenced tools to measure cognitive abilities, tasks to measure psychological traits that influence how someone understands their world, and behavioral checklists for the client, parents, teachers, and/or other individuals who know the client well. At the feedback session, Kate will explain the results and take time to answer any questions. The client is the official owner of the final report and can decide when and where to share the information.
