Maha Khalil, BA, MA Candidate in Marriage and Family Therapy
Clinical Intern
I believe that therapy is a journey towards clarity and achievement. As a collaborative therapist, I facilitate conversations that help you better understand your experiences, situation, and relationships. Through our conversations, you will feel empowered as you develop new perspectives on your situation and open up to new possibilities and directions for your life.
Whether you come as an individual, a couple, or a family, you will experience my attentive, respectful, and warm style. As you introduce me to your world, you will notice my curiosity about your values, views, and aspirations.
My fascination with cultural diversity began while growing up in Egypt, a cultural melting pot and crossroads of civilizations. I had challenging cultural experiences such as blending a conservative upbringing with a liberal education, bypassing the rigid, biased interpretation of religion (my faith is Islam), and appreciating the deep, gentle, and tolerant nature of Muslim spirituality. My cultural curiosity took me to five continents and fueled my passion to learn Spanish and German, French, Arabic, and English. I am a firm believer in dialogue, building bridges, and collaboration.
I pay attention to social justice and personal empowerment. This awareness started with earlier life experiences and was developed by community work and playing sports. My previous journalism career and, recently, my experiences as a single mother of a neurodivergent teenager identifying as a Muslim/Arab in the US added much to this awareness.
I like to draw on mindfulness and spirituality and invite you to be fully present in the moment rather than linger in the past or agonize about the future. This fosters groundedness, focus, connection, and richness.
Since no one lives in a vacuum, I adopt a systemic lens in my work and invite you to reflect on the relationships, circumstances, and life experiences that may affect your current situation.
We are relational beings. Yet, even in healthy relationships, we are challenged. But in them, we are also seen, appreciated, and supported. And through them, we grow and thrive. I will support your efforts to build and nourish healthy relationships in your life. With the right tools, attitude, and support, you can transform challenges into a force that propels you towards your goals.
I am excited to join you on this journey!
